A Mini Guide to Hiring a Floor Cleaning Machine: Your Questions Answered

Once you have achieved your desired flooring through scabbling, grinding, stripping and polishing, you’ll need to maintain it by using quality cleaning machines. If your flooring is subject to heavy footfall or spillages, hiring floor cleaning machines such as scrubber dryers or grout cleaning machines are an excellent solution to keep your flooring looking clean and shiny.

If you’re considering floor cleaner hire from Concept Flooring Technology, you may have some questions about how these machines work and how to use them. Here we’ll answer these questions so you can prepare yourself to hire a great floor cleaning machine such as a scrubber dryer or grout cleaning machine.

Frequently asked questions

Which types of machines are available?

At Concept Flooring Technology, we have two types of scrubber dryers available, these are ride-on or walk-behind machines. We stock Numatic scrubber dryers as they are some of the best floor cleaning machines on the market.

  • Numatic TT4045 Scrubber Dryer

This scrubber dryer is a heavy-duty walk-behind machine with a 40L capacity. It plugs into your mains power to offer a continuous and powerful clean, without interruption. You can choose how much solution is fed down through the heavy-duty scrubbing brush on the front of the machine. The curved vaccinated squeegee collects the slurry and deposits it into the 40L waste tank which can be emptied at a drain once you’ve finished cleaning.

  • Numatic TR0650 Scrubber Dryer

This machine is a ride-on scrubber dryer ideal for large areas. It’s battery-powered and holds 120L with 3.5 hours of running time so you can get large jobs done before it will need to be charged again. The advantage of battery-powered floor cleaning machines is that you don’t have a cable that could get caught on furniture or create a tripping hazard. This also means you are able to cover large spaces without needing to think about access to power cords or dealing with extension cords.

To determine which machine is best for you, consider what it will be used for. If you need to clean large areas with little access to power sources, the ride-on scrubber dryer may be beneficial. However, if you only need to clean smaller areas, the stand-behind will work well as you will have a constant power source.

How do scrubber dryers work?

A scrubber dryer is designed to perform two types of cleaning functions simultaneously – scrubbing from a rotary cleaning machine and drying from a vacuum-like suction operation. As the scrubber dryer passes across the floor, it cleans and vacuums, leaving a previously dirty floor clean and bone dry, allowing people to walk over it straight away. This makes them ideal for public and commercial facilities because they provide a safe, quick and hygienic solution to cleaning your flooring as opposed to a standard bucket and mop.

A scrubber dryer is made up of a clean water tank, a vacuum unit, a squeegee, a collection tank and a control panel. The clean water tank ranges in size depending on the size of the model. Also, a ride-on scrubber dryer will hold more water than a walk-behind machine. Water is fed from the tank directly through the brush heads and is used to clean through rotary scrubbing.

The vacuum unit is located within the collection tank. It’s protected from water thanks to a float valve which cuts off the vacuum operation in the event the wastewater level becomes too high. This is teamed up with a squeegee that sits on the back of the machine and follows behind it when the machine is moving. It is wider than the machine itself to help collect water when the machine turns. The water collected can be emptied through a drainage outlet below its base.

How do grout cleaning machines work?

Grout cleaning machines are ideal for cleaning grouts on granite setts, pavers, external pavements and pedestrian areas. They are able to deep clean the grout without pulling it up from the joints. The continuous sponge is fed through a water bucket and rollers, the excess sludge and water is squeezed out leaving the sponge to repeat the cycle. The roller can be easily replaced with a new sponge belt once it has become too dirty. As grout is liable to pick up dirt over time, it requires a bit more attention than your typical cleaning methods, particularly when covering a large area.

What consumables will I need?

Consumables are a part of a machine that needs to be replaced at a certain interval of time, based on the amount of wear and tear it has experienced. When hiring floor cleaning machines you may need to replace the consumables regularly as they can become worn and dirty. However, you won’t need to replace them nearly as often as standard cleaning materials such as sponges or mops.

For your scrubber dryer machine, scrubbing brushes are fitted to the machine. For the Numatic TT0650 scrubber dryer, you’ll need two 330mm brushes and for the TT4045, you’ll need one 450mm brush. The grout cleaning machines use sponge belts to clean.
